ADDISON, IL- Coming off their worst defeat in six years, the Bulldogs hoped to turn things around in Sunday’s game against the Motorheads. However, prior to the early morning skate, the Bulldogs received bad news regarding several all stars. Joe Koehler, Scott Gaczorek and Mitch LaBuda were rushed to the emergency room for penicillin shots after each of them acquired an undisclosed STD from the same Mexican hooker in Tijuana. Tony Feeney would also miss the game due to alcohol poisoning and Daniel Nyiri would miss his fourth consecutive game due to issues regarding his visa and immigration status.

With reserves D.J. Orzechowski, and Alex Martinez Jr. filling in, The ‘Bulldogs’ knew they had their work cut out for themselves. They were playing an established squad with a full bench and several ‘A’ caliber players. With only ten skaters, the ‘Dogs’ fought valiantly, but dropped another contest 9-6.

Despite being outplayed by superior competition throughout, the resilient ‘Bulldogs’ showed the heart of a champion by never giving in. Through two periods, the score was tied  3-3. In spite of being outplayed, the ‘Dogs’ kept pace with the Motorheads thanks to some superb defense and timely goals by Dan DiFatta (2) and Danny Bednarek.

The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game, on Bednarek power play goal early in the third period. The ‘Dogs’ did all they could to protect the lead, but the Motorheads tied it up with just under eight minutes left in the contest. They took the lead several minutes later and added three more unanswered goals.

The Bulldogs fought back with two more goals of their own, but it was too little too late. The disadvantage of having a short bench, exhaustion and having several players playing positions they were unfamiliar with finally caught up with them.

“We’ve played some very tough teams recently” said Alex Martinez. “Some of the toughest we’ve played in awhile. Give these guys tremendous credit tonight as we still put up a good fight. Had we had at least one more legitimate defenseman or another scorer, we may have won this game.

Unfortunately, moral victories don’t count in the standings. The Bulldogs record stands at 2-4 after the loss putting them in sixth place.

The Good:

Heart: The entire Bulldog squad came out, skated hard and gave it their all, despite the loss. The more than made up for the heart that this team has so lacked in the first 5 games of the season.

Goaltending: Martinez bounced back from a poor performance by stopping 40 of the first 43 shots he faced.

The Bad:

TEAM Defense: It’s pretty hard to blame a defense when they play with very little rest for the night. That said, giving up 50 shots on goal and five unanswered tallies late in the game is not going to win you many games.

Tijuana Hookers: Despite advance warning all week from veteran Bulldogs, Koehler Gaczorek & LaBuda couldn’t keep it in their pants while on “safari” in Tijuana.

The Ugly:

Unabomber: The retro 80’s Unabomber (A. Curcio) made his second appearance at a Bulldog game this year. Welcome to the 21st century. Time to update the hairdo, the beard and the wardrobe my friend.

ESPN Hit of the Week:

Joey F.V. nails J.J. (Dyn-O-Mite) Wampach late n the third period.

Player(s) of the Game:

Dan DiFatta turns the hat trick.

Next up: Thursday March 4, 2010 at 10:40pm vs. the Eagles.
