Chicago Bulldogs 1, Off in the Shower 14
Saturday, November 12th, 2011 FINAL @ Rolling Meadows Ice Arena | Box Score
Rolling Meadows, IL- On Saturday night the Bulldogs faced off against the first place team, Off in the Shower (OITS). Coming off of a huge win the Bulldogs were optimistic about their future and felt they were ready to compete with anyone. Instead, they got spanked 14-1 in front of a capacity crowd.
By late Friday night, the Bulldogs front office began getting phone calls from players that were not going to make the game for a number of reasons including constipation, hangovers and arrests. The front office worked feverishly to bring up several Milwaukee Milkshakes (Bulldog farm team) but the result was only two players, Jonathan Eby & Go-Joe Kim.
The Bulldogs understood that they would have to make due with only seven skaters. At game time, they had only five, as two no-shows (including Kim), failed their teammates. With only one line set to play ironman hockey the Bulldogs were able to hold their own in the first period as they held the opposition to only three goals. However, fatigue set in during the middle of the second period and they surrendered eight goals.
By the third period, with the game pretty much out of reach, the Bulldogs found their second win limiting OITS to three goals and managed to score one, thanks to Eby’s penalty shot in the final seconds.
The five skaters, who showed up, played hard up until the final whistle. They showed heart, courage and a never-give-up attitude; a recipe for success that their teammates should try to emulate.
If the Bulldogs continue to play with only five to seven skaters, they can certainly look to a long season ahead. A short bench has plagued the Bulldogs in the past and they paid for it.
On a side note, former disgruntled, Bulldog, Tom “Radio” Mitrosz and his cronies (the Wolverines) attended the game to heckle the Bulldogs.
At his Monday morning press conference, Bulldog GM & goalie Alex Martinez addressed his team by ripping them to shreds by saying “Congratulations motherf****rs! Not only did we play with only 5 skaters, two players waited until the last minute to notify us of their absence and two more decided they would be no shows. In case you missed the game, we got our asses handed too us in front of the crowd, most notably the Mickey Mouse Gang (Chicago Wolverines). Yes sir. We gave them a real show after they all that got off the short little bus. It must have motivated them enough, because after our game, they recorded their first win of the season. Hope you all had a good Saturday night!”
The Good:
- Five Skaters Showed Up: At least they had enough NOT to forfeit the game.
The Bad:
- Five Skaters Showed Up: The fact that the other ten guys would do this to their teammates is a disgrace in itself.
The Ugly:
- Radio & The Tards: Pictures are worth 1000 words.
Three Amigos of the Game:
- Alex Martinez: Alex faced an incredible 56 shots stopping 75% of them.
- Jon Eby: Eby scored the games lone goal on a penalty shot.
- Mitch LaBuda, Sam Karim, Mike Mancuso and Maher Karim: The actually showed up.
