Back on May 13th of 2011, XFO (Xtreme Fighting Organization) held an event at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL and it featured several well known MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighters from all over the U.S. On the card was Chicago Bulldogs supporter Michele “Diablita” Gutierrez who flew in from Las Vegas to take on Amanda LaVoy. For the majority of the first round, Gutierrez pounded LaVoy landing hard shots and dropping her twice. LaVoy seemed confused, outmatched and you could see that she was trying to hold on to Gutierrez for a little dirty boxing. In the second, it was much of the same, but this time desperate LaVoy was able to grab on to Gutierrez by holding on to Gutierrez hair. Not able to get out of her “Hair Holding Clinch” LaVoy pounded Gutierrez with knees to the face and head. One of those knees ended up connecting causing a nasty cut to the head of Gutierrez resulting the ringside Dr. to stop the fight and awarding Amanda LaVoy the victory. The argument is this. Why would a fighter be awarded a victory when video and photos show that LaVoy cheated by holding on to Gutierrez hair. At the very least the ref should have ruled the fight a no contest, thus not affecting any of the two fighter’s record. Why make an issue of this? Is it because Michele Gutierrez is a Bulldogs fan? Is it because she is the hottest female mixed martial artist in the game today? Well, yes, but what’s right is right and seeing that this happened in our backyard in the Chicago area we should make a stink about it. Mixed Martial Arts is a very tough sport. Ted Markos and Alex Martinez of the Bulldogs who are veterans of the sport can attest to that fact. What makes it harder to Michele Gutierrez is that she is not only a woman trying to make it in a so called man’s sport, but she is also a single mother. Gutierrez is a positive role model across the board and should get our support. She is only one voice, so let’s multiply that by as many as we can and help her out. How? Email or write the Illinois Boxing Commission and tell them that the fight on May 13th 2011 Gutierrez vs. LaVoy should be ruled a no contest. The IBC will be ruling on this matter soon so act today. ILLINOIS BOXING COMMISSION To hear more about the incident, tune it tonight on www.mmarecap.com and hear Michele Gutierrez talk about it live. Good Luck Diablita!!!!!
