Is their success based on being the most talented team in the league? Some would say yes, but a closer look at the organization could change opinions. It’s time to give credit where credit is due, as we focus on the Chicago Bulldogs Front Office. Many organizations in the Midwest have launched franchises in the last several years. However, many of these clubs have competed for a season or two and disappeared into oblivion. Others have continually revamped their rosters or merged with other squads in order to continue to operate. The Chicago Bulldogs, on the other hand, have been in existence since 2004 (2001 if you include their two year stint in roller hockey). Since that time the Bulldogs have won (4) league championships, (1) national title, (1) North American title and have been finalists six other times. What’s been the secret to their success? The Bulldogs are organized from top to bottom. They are very selective on which players they draft/sign and who is employed by the front office. They have a solid farm system in Milwaukee as well as developmental team in Mexico. Many of the Bulldog players themselves are also employed by the front office or volunteer duties. There is always plenty going on behind the scenes in the day to day operations for this club. For instance, on game day, it’s a fulltime job for the coaches and GM organizing transportation for players get to the game as well as ensuring that minor leaguers are on hand ready and able to compete when a roster spot needs to filled in case of injury or any other reason. The man behind the curtain, President/ General Manager Alex Martinez has done a phenomenal job over the years keeping core players and surrounding them with up and coming talent. “It takes a special individual to become a Bulldog” commented Martinez. “It’s not just about talent. To be a Bulldog, you need to have character, plenty of heart, real thick skin and most importantly; understand the concept of being a team player. We’ve had guys with extraordinary skills in past, and they were released or traded because they were clubhouse cancers or just didn’t have the characteristics that we were looking for.” “We are always looking for guys that can perform double duty” said VP of Player Development Bill Nolan. “We need players that can also contribute off the ice as well as they do on the ice. Our organization cannot continue to successfully operate without the work and volunteered efforts of our players.” Other notable front office personnel who have contributed to the Bulldogs: Maher Karim - VP of Media/Public Relations - Maher has been the main contributor to the team’s website, as well as the mastermind behind their media relations, marketing and public relations campaigns. Mike Mancuso - Chief Operating Officer - Mike is the team’s social network media guru. He has been the central figure in this season Bulldog media blitz. Joe Koehler - Director of Human Resources/Personnel - Joe’s contributions go largely unnoticed. However, the kid’s work off the ice is just as valuable as it is on the ice. Sam Karim - Bulldog Beat Writer- Despite being one of the original Bulldogs, Sam is a new addition to the front office team. He is responsible for the Bulldog pre-game report and game recaps as seen on the website. Snake Sanchez- CBN-TV Reporter- Snake has never played for the Bulldogs (his tryout didn’t go very well) but his on-air persona is refreshingly fresh. Although he is currently serving a suspension for unruly behavior on the air, his popularity continues to grow, as he has become a fan favorite. Running with the BulldogsBy: Millian, Host of...
