Front Office-
The 'Bulldogs' were
dealt a serious blow to their offense on Wednesday
morning when they learned that their star center Sean
O'Connell declined an offer to remain with them. He
signed a contract with the 'Lions'. O'Connell was the
second leading scorer for the 'Bulldogs' last season,
and truly shined in the playoffs, including a five goal
performance in the opening round.
In light of the
recent controversy surrounding the possibility of
one or two gay players on the Bulldogs, we asked
O'Connell if that led to his decision to change
teams. "Not at all" said O'Connell. "None of the
guys on that team are gay. I don't know who started
that rumor and the media should just let that story
die. I loved playing with those guy and I would play
with them any day of the week. I just had an
opportunity to play with a my old buddies who are a
classy bunch of seasoned vets."
GM Alex Martinez
released this statement to his team and the
press this morning "I just got the bad news this
morning that Sean will be playing with the Lions,
the team we open up against. I am disappointed, but
at the same time I can understand Sean's decision.
He grew up with some of these guys and friends can
be pressured. Now, [we] have to scramble to get a
player or two." After the press conference, Martinez
said with a grim look on his face, "We lost Sean. He
has essentially been traded for a kick in the dick!"
The rumor mill has
produced news that the Bulldogs are in pursuit of
several free agents, including a couple of players
of the 'Molly Malone's. "Hopefully we can get an
experienced scorer" said Maher Karim. "When we lost
Sean, we lost more than just offense, we also lost a
leader and a remarkable two way player."
The Bulldogs are less
than a week away from their season opener. It
is imperative that they fill their void as soon as
possible. If they cannot, then it may be a long
season for this crop of inexperienced youngsters.
