Bulldogs break slump with 2-1 victory

 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS Rockies Date/Time Rink
2 1 07/05/2006 @ 8:10pm Johnny's Ice House

July 7th, 2006- Both Eric Carr and Darren Diamond each had goal’s while goaltender Alex Martinez stopped 20 of 21 shots as the Bulldogs held on to defeat the Rockies 2-1 this past Wednesday at Johnny’s Ice House in Chicago.

The Bulldogs saw themselves in familiar territory when only 8 skaters showed up for the game. In years past going back to their Inline Hockey days, the Bulldogs from time to time go through transition period. Unfortunately for them, it’s right in the middle of the season in a league where they have been on a waiting list for two years.

The Bulldogs for the most part dominated the first two periods of the game, but had nothing to show for it. Both clubs goalies stood tall in net keeping there teams not only in the game, but on the edge.

After two scoreless periods, the Bulldogs caught a break in the third when the Rockies were penalized for too many men on the ice.  The Bulldogs capitalized and defenseman Eric Carr scored on the Power Play.

The Rockies were desperate for a goal as the third period neared an end. Pulling there goalie for the odd man advantage was costly as Darren Diamond stole the puck and scored the empty netter to put the Bulldogs up by two goals.

The fatigued Bulldogs mettle was tested with seconds left to play in the game after failing to clear the puck out of their zone. Rockies “Tank Repo” scored with a slap shot and with only seconds left in the game.

Diamond immediately rallied the players on the ice and reminded them to play smart and do not let the lead slip away. The Bulldogs were able to limit the Rockies to only a handful of chances for the remaining seconds, leading the way to the victory.

The Good:

  • Hustle and lots of it, considering the Bulldogs were with only 8 skaters.

The Bad:

  •  NONE

 The Ugly:

  • The Bulldogs missing out... Sh*t happens that sometimes you have to miss a game but playing hockey hooky when you know your team is short and has un-reliable subs, well that is really ugly.
