 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS Molly Malone's Date/Time Rink
0 7 08/11/2004 The Edge Ice arena

August 11, 2004- The Bulldogs tore a page out of Donald Rumsfeld’s playbook last Thursday night by launching their own “Shock and Awe” campaign against the Molly Malone's. The Bulldogs, in their most impressive showing of the season and being without their starring forwards, almost pulled off an astonishing victory, but fell short  losing 7-0.

The Bulldogs finished the much to be desired season with poise and dignity setting the stage for a promising fall/winter season. The Bulldogs fans were in full force as they cheered frantically from the first drop of the puck to the final buzzer. Bulldog ownership, was pleased that the new franchise was finally coming through.

No Good, No Bad and No Ugly for this game.

Some post game interviews revealed that perhaps this game performance was the product of a more cohesive unit that came together to almost defeat a common enemy.

I spoke with GM, Alex Martinez, after the game. Below is the transcript of our discussion:

Panger: So, Alex, reflecting on the past few games, what do you think the team could have done better?

Alex: Well, Panger, we really need to score more goals and give up fewer scoring opportunities for the opponents to capitalize on. I think that the key to this game is to score more goals than the other team. I have said that from day 1.

Panger: What happened today?

Alex: First off, we were short handed with our forwards. We didn’t have Ryne "the flying Hawaiian" Gerstner and Sean "Cable Man" O'Connell...

Panger: Well, you played pretty good tonight. Why didn’t the rest of the team pull their weight?

Alex: You know Panger, I try to set the example by playing my hardest, but some people just aren’t good followers. I always say lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. Most of the guys on this team need to get out of the way…except for our defense. They need to start getting in the way.

Panger: How are things among the team after such a horrific loss?

Alex: You know I don’t mean to air our dirty laundry to you and I would hate to ever see this in print so just between you and me, there was a huge argument in the locker room after the game. Feeney lost his temper and almost killed Modranski. It got quite tense, both players striped down and were going to go at it, Old Greco Roman Style, butt naked.

Panger: What do you see happening here in the near future with the Bulldogs? Do you foresee victory anytime soon?

Alex: Uhh…no. I hate to have that defeatist attitude and a negative outlook, but unless some major changes occur, we are going to keep getting killed out there. I mean I am doing everything I can. Contract negotiations are coming up, and the owners and I are going to thoroughly review each player’s contract. We may have to bring Kurt Swanson back out of retirement if things keep up this way.

Panger: Thanks Alex and I hope that rash clears up.

Alex: I appreciate it Panger.

Next I was able to speak with forward Joey V. He had some interesting things to say concerning the team and the season.

Panger: Welcome Joey. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to answer a few questions. I’d like to begin by asking you what happened out there tonight?

Joey V.: Panger, I don’t know what to say. I work hard every game and everyone else is just dragging ass. I hustle up and down that ice for three periods and the rest of these bozos half ass the entire game.

Panger: What do you see happening in the next part of the season?

Joey V.: Well, I see nothing but victory in the upcoming games that we have scheduled. I think that we have our act together. We just need to polish it to a high spit shine.

Panger: Have you heard anything about contract negotiations coming up?

Joey V.: No, have you?

Panger: Yeah, Alex said that everyone was getting reviewed soon. It sounded like he was planning on cutting of few people and shrinking the contracts down. You really didn’t hear anything about this?

Joey V.: That son-of-bitch Alex. I knew he was going to pull some crap like this. When I get my hands on him….

And Joey V. stormed out of there. I appreciated the opportunity to sit down with these two Bulldogs and I hope that I can meet with some others next game. That’s all for now. Good luck next week, Bulldogs....
