Bulldogs lose, but Refuse to Quit

 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS Ice Pack Date/Time Rink
0 11 07/13/2004 The Edge Ice arena

July 13th, 2004- The Bulldogs saw their record drop to 0-11 as they lost another game to the Ice Pack, 11-0. Five members (4 skaters & goalie Alex Martinez) of the Bulldogs sat in the locker room five minutes before the game was to start, wondering if they were going to forfeit. For the second time in three weeks, they would struggle just to get one line out on the rink. Fortunately, three more players showed up and the Bulldogs would have to settle for 7 skaters. The Ice Pack suited 11 skaters on what would be a long evening.

The ‘Dogs’ "never-say-die" attitude was evident in the first period. The Ice Pack grew more and more frustrated as fired 20 shots in the period, but only scored twice. Many of their other opportunities were broken up thanks to the Bulldogs’ stingy defense—amazing, considering the fact that only one defenseman suited up on this night, with several others filling in.

The Bulldogs trailed only 4-0 with under 5 minutes in the second period. Impressive, considering that earlier this season, they were spanked 19-1 by this same team, despite the fact that they had 12 skaters for the game. Unfortunately, having a short bench and being heavily outnumbered was eventually going to take its toll. In the last 4:30, the Ice Pack put the game out of reach by scoring four quick goals in two minutes, to increase their lead to 8-0.

Although the Bulldogs never scored, they never gave up trying. As tired and exhausted as they were, they kept on fighting. They surrendered only three more goals in the final period, from a team that should have and easily could have beaten them 25-0.

"Nobody gave up!" said Maher Karim. "We skated our asses off and played them tough, all the way up till the end. No one gave us a chance tonight, but that didn’t mean we were just going to surrender."

After the final horn blew, to signal the end of the game, teammates, officials and opponents alike praised the Bulldogs for their effort. They had played valiantly against the odds but showed the league that they were not quitters.

The Good:

-With the exception of a two-minute meltdown at the tail end of the second period, the Bulldogs played some amazing defense.

The Bad:

-Players who have gone M.I.A. Several players were excused for their absence, but the majority of these players really let their teammates down. This is inexcusable and is becoming a habitual thing every week.

The Ugly:

-The Bulldogs on the powerplay.

-The smell of Anthony Micheles’ Hockey Bag. Sorry Tony, regardless of what you spray, sprinkle or rub on that bag, the odor is still unbearable. The stench of the bag and its contents are beginning to resemble the ungodly scent of Dan Ayotte’s ass.

Player(s) of the Gamer of the Game-

Alex Martinez, Sean O’Connell, Sam Karim, Mike Mancuso, Craig Rehr, Joey V., Tony Micheles and Maher Karim for showing up, but mainly for not giving up when most teams would’ve thrown in the towel. Most of them were tough enough to play tired and versatile enough to play offense and defense.
