Dogfight at the Edge

 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS Team Shannon Date/Time Rink
4 8 06/21/2004 The Edge Ice arena

June 21, 2004- Team Shannon could've roused some animal activists for trying to beating a dead dog on Monday night at the Edge Ice Area, but those damn Bulldogs must've been from The Pet Cemetery because it kept coming back to life, time and time again.  Team Shannon held on to win it 9-6 but not without some snarling play by the 'Bulldogs'.

The Bulldogs came out of the gate in a flurry.  Ryne Gerstner scored a from a pass by Ted Markos 10:31 mark of the 1st period.  A few minutes later, Sean O'Connell would score after his first shot was saved, he slammed home the rebound for a quick 2-0 lead.  The Bulldogs enjoyed the 2 goal lead for only a couple of minutes, Team Shannon player #24, would fly up the left wing boards and cut to the net to squeeze in the first Team Shannon goal with 2 defenders hacking at him all the way. Not only did it break the goose egg that was sitting temporarily for the Bulldog, but it was the beginning, 4 answer goals in the first period alone.

Team Shannon outscored the Bulldogs in the second period as well, 4-2.  The Bulldogs picked up their lonely goals from Joey V. and Ted Markos. Sean O'Connell would take one for the team in the second, being on the receiving side of several cheap shots and punches from what seemed to be Team Shannon's best player. Sean would keep his cool through the skirmish and ended up with Team Shannon All Star player being ejected from the game.

In the 3rd period it looked as if the Team Shannon would send the Bulldogs home with their tails between their legs leading the game 8-4, but the Bulldogs would rally and make the game close. More goals from Ryne Gerstner and Joey V. would not be enough. The end result the Bulldogs would lose another game.

On a side note- This has been the most Immature team the Bulldogs have ever played against. Veteran players from Team Shannon would act like pussy's and take cheap shots during the game and right after the game was over. On the other hand Veteran players like John Reeg would show class and not stoop to the low level that most of the players from Team Shannon showed. In the end, even our younger players displayed more character and heart than those players from a team call, Shannon.

The Good-

  • Another Rally... The games are closer and closer.. I think the goalie needs to step it up throughout the game.

  • The Bulldogs were outshoot 50-27 in the game, but in the Dominating 3rd, the Bulldogs outshoot Team Shannon 14-13..

  • Keeping your heads cool, even after the cheap shots came. It resulted in team Shannon getting several players suspended and also preventing the situation to get "ugly".

  • More Beer... this time from the Young Guns from Wanabe, CA "Ryne Gerstner and Ted Markos". Thanks Guys...

  • Craig Rehr's family being present at the game.... Especially his 9 month olds watching his dad for the first time playing Hockey.

The Bad-

  • More shots on goals are needed. It seems that some panic when the puck comes to them. When it doubted, shoot!!!!

  • Craig's 9 month old pointing at the Goalie "Alex Martinez" and yelling out "Da da!!!"....

The Ugly-

  • Possible suspension for Ted Markos for defending his teammate at the end of the game.

  • The Asshole/ Zambonie/ Security Guard who kicked us out of the locker room, because he wanted to go home and beat off.
