 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS RAMS Date/Time Rink
9 5 05/14/2007 IIC, Romeoville, IL

May 15th, 2007- Speed kills and the Bulldogs used every ounce of theirs to steamroll the slower Rockdale Rams 9-5 and build some momentum as they head off to Las Vegas for the USA Hockey National Championships.

All facets of the Bulldogs game were in sync against the Ram’s.   Defensively, the team held the Rams scoreless in power-play situations.  Offensively, The Bulldogs continuously rolled 3 lines, controlled play and created odd-man rushes.  As for goaltending, Martinez stopped 17 of 22 shots for his 1st victory of the season.

In addition, the Bulldogs welcomed 2 new players, veteran Steve Varzino and rookie defenseman Danny Benarek. Varzino who played center in his Bulldogs debut dominated his circle and impressed the team with his all out hustle and knowledge of the game. Speaking of impressing the team, Danny Bednarek was no slouch, he quickly made his presence known taking out kneecaps from his nasty shot from the point.

"We've gotten fortunate, we've gotten some bounces, some breaks and some things to go our way," said GM Martinez after the game.  "Right now, we've gotten ourselves some good talented players to create more opportunities for others on the team.

"We're playing good hockey and we're still learning about ourselves," said rookie Chris Bednarek.  "Each night there are adjustments to be made and we want to just keep having fun with it."

Grudge matches between the Bulldogs and some of the league’s stiffer competition are yet to be played, but no doubt that this team is the team to beat when and if everyone shows.

Notes- Bulldogs heading to Vegas..... wish us luck..

The Good:

  • Offense: No slackers... Rookie's making everyone step it up a notch.
  • Defense: Koehler gets the much needed help in a nasty defenseman "Danny".
  • Goaltending: Martinez looked ok in the 1st half and then Swiss cheesed it near the end. Still enough to win.

The Bad:

  • None:

 The Ugly:

  • None: The Ram player who screamed like b*tch when taking a shot from the point... I can understand Danny's, but Sam's???
