 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS WHEELERS Date/Time Rink
3 1 10/04/2005 International

October 5th, 2005- "SLACKER'S" is what was yelled out by a young Bulldog fan named "Paco" after last Fridays 6-3 lose to the Leafs and right was Paco. Poor Goaltending, poor Defense ad poor overall play from the team resulted in a nasty lose. However, a players only meeting was held early this week after Captain Jason Darlfer found out that Management was looking for a trade or possibly bringing up a player from one of the Bulldogs Affiliates. The end result last night was the Bulldogs beating the crafty vets "Wheelers" 3-1.

Dafler arrived at the game wearing fatigues and styling new a   buzz cut, shouting "I've brought the Pain Brothers", "No B/S, lets go out there and kick their ass". The locker room was full of excitement, hyper ness and eagerness, as you can hear the Boom Box loudly playing "Rick James" and MC Hammer music. The Bulldogs were ready....

The first period began in favor of the Bulldogs, scoring 29 seconds into it, as Ryne Gerstner got one past the Wheelers goalie from an assist of Rookie Darren Diamond. The rest of the period the Bulldogs would dominate in the Wheelers zone with the Wheelers only having a limited scoring opportunities.

In the second things became interesting as the Wheelers became more aggressive and forced the puck several times in the Bulldogs zone. Not only did they manage to put pressure on the Bulldogs defense and cause turn overs, but also they manage to sneak in a break away that was eventually stopped by Bulldogs goalie Alex Martinez. For a moment the Wheeler seem to be getting some momentum, but that ended when Sal Karim scored off a nice pass from Ryne Gerstner. The goal would mark the first for Sal this season and it could not have come at a better time. With the 2nd period ending, the Bulldogs lead was now at 2-0.

As the third period began Ryne Gerstner who was playing against his Step-Father and former Bulldog John Reeg, was really getting under the skin of not only old John, but also the other Wheelers. John Reeg as mentioned was a Bulldog just last season when the Bulldogs won the EAHL crown, but was released and encouraged to look for team that was better suited for his age. John who was negotiating with Wheelers this past off season, found what he was looking for. The Wheelers facilities is exactly what John wanted , they have morning walks at the mall, Bingo is on Friday nights, Square Dancing on Saturdays and on Sundays they are taken to the stores so that they can do there shopping and buy their medicine.

The walks at the mall paid off for the old timers, after winning a face-off in the Bulldogs zone, the Wheelers would score and cut the Bulldogs lead in half. The Bulldogs would stop any kind of come back that the Wheelers were planning, when Joey F_cken V, scored from a Jeremy Campbell assist to close the deal and close the game.

After the game.. young "Paco" who was in attendance, was surprised and declined an invitation to Mike Mancuso's house, he did however get several Bulldog signatures on his box of Chiclets.

The Good:

  • The Defense played huged, they gave it to the old timers when they challenged the crease or slot.

  • Goaltending, a little better this time around.

  • Forwards gave it their all and never gave up.

The Bad:

  • Conditioning, the Bulldogs needs to take shorter shifts and keep the fresh on the ice.

 The Ugly:

  •  John Reeg's Viagra pills, they fell out his jock strap when he crashed the net in the 2nd period. The entire team was calling him "Big John" the entire game.

Player of the Game:

Alex Martinez : Alex, almost recorded his second shut of the season, but settled for a one goal against game. He stopped 26 of 27 shots.... After the game Alex commented, "its all in my Defense".
