12th,
2005-
After
last weeks loss to the Storm, the Bulldogs looked
to rebound in their first ever match up against
McNallys. They didnt disappoint, winning 11-1 on an
evening where several franchise records fell by the
wayside.
The
Dogs didnt waste any time. They opened the game with
two quick goals en route to 3-1 first period lead. The
goals were scored by Jason Darfler (unassisted) and two
by Ryne Gerstner (with James Senne assisting on both).
The sole blemish in the period came when the Bulldog
defense collapsed giving McNallys their only goal of
the night.
The
second period was no disappointment either. The Dogs
scored four more goals, while their defense held the
hapless McNallys squad scoreless. The Bulldog goals
were scored by Darfler (assisted by John Reeg), Ted
Markos, Sal Karim (assisted by Reeg & Senne) and
Gerstner.
The
Bulldogs utilized the third period to demonstrate
their season long domination of the league. While most
teams would have just coasted through the final period,
the Dogs went ahead to score another four goals and
limit the opposition to just one shot on goal.
The goals were scored by Gerstner (2), Darfler (assisted
by Senne) and Joey V. Joey finally scored after
completely missing the net on his fifteen previous shot
attempts.
All in
all the Bulldogs set several franchise records in the
game. These were:
-
Most
goals scored in a game: 11 (old record 10)
-
Most
goals by a player in a single game: 5 Ryne Gerstner
(ties Joey V.s record)
-
Most
assists by a player in a single game: 4 James Senne
-
New
single season club record for goals: 60 (old record
59)
-
Most
goals scored by player in a season: 13 (tie) Jason
Darfler & Ryne Gerstner
-
New
single season club record for points: 113 (old record
96)
The
victory gives the Bulldogs a 7-1 record, ensuring a
tie for the best record in the league this season.
Unfortunately, without a playoff to follow the season,
it wont have quite the same impact as the team would
have liked.
The
Good:
-
Shots
on Goal: The Bulldogs out-shot their opponent 58-14.
-
Scoring: Despite the fine play of the McNally
goaltender, the Dogs still managed to throw a
franchise record 11 goals on the scoreboard.
-
Passing: The Bulldogs executed the breakout pass
well, creating many odd man rushes and scoring
opportunities.
-
Goaltending: Martinez rebounded from last weeks
sub-par performance to post one of his better games of
the season. This was the fourth time this season in
which he gave up one goal or less to an opponent.
The
Bad:
