 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS BEAVERS Date/Time Rink
9 2 11/12/2007 The Edge Ice Arena

November 14th, 2007- Sometimes, pain can be a good thing. It can build character, push limits and, in the Bulldogs’ case, can lead to winning hockey games.

“Like I told the team last night, it is painful,” Martinez said. “You are going to feel pain, especially when the microwave corndogs mixed in with Taco Bell Chalupas were pouring out of my mouth like Niagara Falls a few hours before the game.  All worth it as we made a big step [Sunday night against the Beavers].”

The pain Martinez is referring to is not all completely physical. Rather, it is growing pains the team is experiencing lately.

With MIA’s plaguing the Bulldogs along with the addition of four new players. The Bulldogs have to again forge their identity.

“We learned a pretty big lesson against the Blue Jays,” Captain Joe Van Grimbergen said regarding the Bulldogs 10-0 loss to the Blue Jays last week. “You take that lesson and move forward. We went through a lot of that defensive zone stuff that we messed up on and I think you give these guys credit. They listened.”

That was evident Sunday night against the Beavers, as the Bulldogs called up Defensive veteran John Reeg and moved Mike Farias to help out on defense.  Instead of the confusion that Van Grimbergen described following the Blue Jays game, the team displayed cohesion, crisp passing which resulted in multiple shots on the Beavers goalie. In the end, the Beavers would lose their cool giving the Bulldogs multiple power- play opportunities and ending the game 9-2 for a final.

The task that now lies ahead for the Bulldogs is converting effort into more wins. A busy schedule in the month ahead, including two none-divisional games in the upper tier that will prove to be a good challenge.

Van Grimbergen believes the key is in finding a balance.

That includes balancing offensive power on the lines, pairing rookie blueliners with veteran counterparts, and most importantly, keeping the balance between playing simple and making good plays.

But overall, if your goalie ever has the sh*t;s like Martinez had during the game; stop by the local Walgreen’s, spend the $7 and pick up some Imodium A-D. That should hold him for about 2 periods.

The Good:

  • Offense: Joey Koehler and Joey F*cken V combind for 8 goals of the 9 scored on the Beavers
  • Defense: Calling up John Reeg was a boost for this game along with Mike “the Polish Burrito” Farias moving to D. This helped keep the puck out of the Bulldogs zone and in the Beavers zone for most of the night.
  • Goaltending:  Acceptable, considering he made it for two periods before sh*tting himself. “Good Boy Alex”.
  • Together Again: Reunited and it fells so good!!! Who would have thought? Maher Karim and Marty Tong being on the ice at the same time, again? The last time these two were together, they ended up parting ways as they argued for several hours on who had the bigger Guns. A note for both of you.. Get a room.

The Bad:

  • Back-Checking: Still had some issues on this.. Get your fat as*es on a treadmill.

  • MIA's: After missing last week, Koehler was the 1st Bulldog fined. He more than made up for it with his performance tonight. However, we now list two more to the list of MIA’s. Sal and Justin are fined for being MIA.

 The Ugly:

  • Corndogs: Sports and hot dogs go together like cookies and milk, a truly American institution with a rich and interesting history. Whether you call them hot dogs, corn dogs,  red hots, wieners, franks or frankfurters, never microwave them. Lesson learned hey Alex.
