 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS CHIEFS Date/Time Rink
8 9 10/31/2007 The Edge Ice Arena

October 31st, 2007- Bulldogs make it close, but  the Chiefs capitalized on multiple Bulldogs defensive lapses to claim a 9-8 victory  at the Edge Ice Arena Wednesday night. The Bulldogs defeat comes on the heels of a 8-7 loss just recently, and the team now sits at 0-2-0.

“I think as a team and myself, we have to be a lot better – tonight’s performance was unacceptable,” goaltender Alex Martinez said. “We can’t just show up and expect to win. Our game opener we got outworked and tonight we didn’t show up.”

Some Bulldogs have not skated since July, like Sal Karim who was styling his new “PINK” hair due and it showed in their legs in the early goings of the first. The first eight minutes of the game were marred by irresponsible back-checking, leading to a continuous attack-counter attack situation, with each garnering equal scoring chances.  The Chiefs would take advantage and put five behind the Bulldogs goalie as the team was in shock.

Traffic in front of the crease enabled the Chiefs to continue the scoring frenzy in the second. They scored three more goals despite killing several power plays that the Bulldogs could not take advantage of.

Frustration kicked it for a moment and Captain Joe Van Grimbergen mixed and matched the Defensive lines, most notably shuffling Sam Karim after some brain fart decisions in the Bulldogs zone.

“We have to do a much better job in the defensive zone,” Van Grimbergen said. “We are just turning the puck over too much. Every time we got within two goals we made another mistake and we paid for it.”

The third ended in a nail bitter as Joey Koehler scored his 4th and 5th goal of the night, while full blown retard “Maher Karim”, scored his 1st goal of the season. John Farias scored with just under 12 seconds left in the game to cut the Chiefs lead to one, but the Bulldogs could not pull it off to send it into OT as time just ran out.

The Bulldogs kept fighting an uphill battle all game. They kept shooting themselves in the foot. Whenever they got a little momentum they had a weak shift and gave it up. You can’t win by not being sharp mentally, and that cost them the hockey game in the end.

The Boy's will be back in action on Sunday and look for their first win of the season, against the Blue Jays.

The Good:

  • Offense: Once again, no lack of goals. Koehler with 5 goals, Maher with 1 (yes Maher scored), John Farias 1 goal and Ryan Scanlon also with 1 goal.
  • Sal's New Haircut: Dude did you join a boy band?

The Bad:

  • Defense: Try getting the puck out of the zone once in awhile. Lack of hustle to the puck and physical play in front of the net. Come on boys, don't get pushed around.

 The Ugly:

  • Goaltending: Horrible....... Martinez could not stop a beach ball that night.
