Bensenville, IL-(November 29,
2004)
Shorthanded again for the
second week in a row, the Bulldogs came into play on
Monday night needing another victory to maintain a
playoff berth. They really had their work cut out for
them on this night. They would be playing their hated
rivals, the Nationals a team that had beaten them
convincingly in two previous meetings. In the end, they
handed the Dogs arguably, their worst defeat of the
season, an 11-0 drubbing.
The Bulldogs should have played a better game.
After losing their first encounter 12-0 to the
high-powered Nationals, the Dogs played a much
closer game in the rematch. They expected to put up a
greater fight in the third meeting, but they looked
immobile against their speedier opponents. "What can I
say, we lost huge" said Alex Martinez. "However there
were a few positives from the game and Jason [Darfler]
pointed them out on the bench and in the locker room. We
play much better on the power kill because we are more
focused and play a tight, four-point defense. If we can
utilize that same strategy at full strength, we could
create some turnovers for ourselves, thus creating
breakaways. We tried it in the third period, and it
worked out fairly well."
The loss knocks the Bulldogs momentarily out of the
playoff race, pending the result of the .45s upcoming
game. With two games left, the Bulldogs need to win
both to guarantee themselves a berth.
The Good:
-Power Kills: The Dogs were 3-for-4 on penalty
kills (including one 5-on-3). The one shorty they gave
up was the first shorthanded goal theyve allowed in
their last five games. It has been without a doubt, the
teams greatest feat what they have accomplished on the
kill this season.
The Bad:
-Long Shifts: Perhaps this was due to a shortage of
players, but when youre tired, GET OFF!
-Passing: Lots of bad passes, led to turnovers in the
defensive zone.
-Shots on Goal: The Bulldogs had only six shots on
goal all game. The Nats on the other hand had no fewer
than eight in any period, for a total of 27 in
the game.
The Ugly:
-Nats Right Winger #27 "Adolf Hitler" Manis: Not
only is this guy grubby and dirty, but this bigot has
disrespected the game and his team by spitting racial
slurs at his convenience. As talented a player as he is,
there is no place for that in this sport.
