Jason Darfler is too much for the 45's

Bensenville, IL-(October 13, 2004) Knowledgeable fans of the game of hockey would have really enjoyed the Bulldogs game against their rivals, the 45's. It was one of their best performances in a long time.  They looked like a real hockey team.  They worked hard defensively. Their goaltending was superb.  They scored a goal that was the result of a picture perfect pass and another one on sheer hustle.  They held off a late rally to preserve a very hard fought 2-1 victory, their first of the season.

Yes, a true hockey fan would have really appreciated this game. Of course, a true hockey fan wouldn't be caught dead at one of our games so the performance was pretty much wasted on empty bleachers.  And to make matters worse, by playing such a good game the team gave no good material from which to write a semi-humorous game recap. YOU INSENSITIVE BASTARDS!!! How could you do this to me? Especially so early in the season when I'm not yet in the swing of things. I suppose you guys are going to REALLY pick up the pace near the end of the season when I'm burned out and have writer's block. Thousands (OK, maybe tens) of people depend on this page every week to inject a little laughter into their stressed out, humorless lives (and to cure their insomnia).  How can I be expected to make fun of a team that plays so well. I ought to just line up the whole team and bitch slap every last one of you. Oh well, here comes what I'm sure will be a real rib-tickling recap.

The lone goal of the of the second period came when Jason Darfler sent an absolutely perfect pass over to Sam Karim near the top of the face-off circle.  Sam Karim got off a one-timer that blasted pass the 45's goaltender. On the other end of the ice goaltender Alex Martinez faced and incredible 27 shots and stopped them all. Near the end of the second period the Bulldogs made it 2-0. Mike Mancuso intercepted the puck, he skated it up past his own blueline and launched a powerful dump shot. Kurt Swanson, not looking at all like a member of a Jurassic line out hustled the opponent's to flip the puck in the open net. The 45's did score with just over a minute to go on a hard fought goal.

Early in the third I thought there was hope of actually writing something off the wall. Immediately after skating around the net in the Bulldogs zone, one of the 45's high sticked Jason Darfler, putting himself in perfect position to receive at least 10 stitches. So what did Darfler do? He laid still, got the other guy to visit the Sin Bin, stood back up, smiled and calmly skated away. The 45's called a time out with minutes to go in the game perhaps they wanted to pull their goalie to give them a 6 on 5 advantage. However the Bulldogs worked their butts off and managed to keep them from scoring. Bulldogs preserve the well deserved first victory the season.

The Good-

Very Minimal Penalties... Only one all game.

The Bad-

Only 11 players showed.. Several were no calls no shows.. they owe the team some booz.

The Ugly-

Once again the Sam Karim Thong is still the Bulldogs best team gear seller. Wonder if we will ever see the person who buys them, just hope the person is a she and not a he.... uhh...
