 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS FIGHTING SQUIRRELS Date/Time Rink
9 6 03/15/2008 Darien Sportsplex

March 18th, 2008- The Chicago Bulldogs and Fighting Squirrels are headed in opposite directions. As the one team looks to be having a successful season the other looks more like a mite team in disarray, with several whiner’s and cry babies.

The Bulldogs did get a scare by the winless Squirrels as several Bulldogs decided that celebrating St. Patrick's day was more important than keeping the Bulldogs winning streak in tact. The hard-core veterans (basically the guys with no date's on a Saturday night) did show. With seven players, one goalie and none of them having much experience playing defense they played on.

The first period was interesting, as the Fighting Squirrels amazingly tall goalie was nowhere to be seen. For almost three minutes of the 1st period the Bulldogs should have had a had trick by someone on team, but instead the Squirrels were tied with the Bulldogs 1-1 while another goalie was getting dressed. At the end of the frame it appeared the beginning’s of a upset as the Bulldogs were down 2-1.

The Bulldogs did manage to settle down on Defense in the second while Martinez made some keys stops. The Bulldogs owed the second getting goals two goals from Scanlon and one from Farias.

The third was also dominant till near the end, when Martinez gave up 3 unanswered goals in a one minute span. After the third goal, the Bulldogs called a time out to kill the moment and get there heads together. They were able to finish off the Fighting Squirrels scoring five goals in the third alone (Scanlon, Karim and Lionello) and finishing the game beating the Squirrels 9-6.

“We gave away the 1st period” said Captain Joe Van Grimbergen “ and we almost did the same in the third”.

Scanlon who scored six goals was happy with the end result but also noted the absence of some players did hurt, “We need these guys to show, two weeks in a row and some guys are missing, then again more beer for us at the end”.

Farias leaving the locker room tired made a brief comment to reporters after the game, “I am getting to old for this sh*t”.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday March 18, against the second place Iradd.

The Good:

  • Offense- Several Bulldogs stepped up and came through big when the team needed them the most. Good job boys.
  • Defense- Shaky, but good enough for the win
  • Goaltending- Great second period..

The Bad:

  • MIA's-  All I have to say is show up with your fines next games.

 The Ugly:

  • #10 of the Fighting Squirrels: Your name is not even worth mentioning, its no wonder you wear a shaded visor, you must be hiding your butt ugly mug, let me guess, you have no pictures of yourself on your myspace right?
