 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS STARS & STRIPES Date/Time Rink
3 3 01/17/2008 Darien Sportsplex

January 21th, 2008- The Chicago Bulldogs returned to league play this past Thursday night from a short trip to 'Bizarro World aka as HNA' -- another dimension, existing alongside our own, in which everything is weirdly skewed and otherwise perversely inverted -- and returned as one big, happy family to take on Stars & Striped in their DAHL league debut.

Team Management also made some major changes after returning from “Bizarro World”. They signed 2 new players (Scott Gazorek and Joe Koldziejczak) and called up Ted Markos who has been playing in the Mexican league for some years now, playing for the Lomas Verdes Falcons.

Along with the additions, the Bulldogs made some sudden moves that would send fear to some of the veterans on the squad. Maher Karim and Sal Karim (no relation) were sent down to the Bulldogs minor league affiliate “The Milwaukee Milkshakes”.

"The roster moves occurred to me during our trip to”Bizarro World," General Manager Alex Martinez said. "That was a message to our club to play to win no matter what”.

Based on Bulldogs play Thursday night, it appeared the team is buying into it as they came from behind, after a slow 1st period and being down 2-0 as they tied it up in the 2nd with goals from Farias and Koldziejczak.

Third would be a close one as Koehler scored to give the Bulldogs the lead, but they would lose it as Stars & Stripes would tie it up with less than five minutes to go in the game.

At the end of the 3rd the game would end at  3-3. Both teams seemed a bit surprised that the game would end in a tie. “No overtime, no shoot-out and no Shi-Bango” said one ref. The hand shake at the end was classy with no incidents and the Bulldogs start off the season with a point.

The Good:

  • Offense- Plenty of action in the other teams zone. S&S goalie played great as another would have lead the Bulldogs to light it up.
  • Defense- WOW!!! Things will be looking good this season as the Defense just got allot younger.
  • Goaltending- Decent, solid D will help out the man behind the mask this season.
  • Maher- This goon subbed after being sent down to the minors. He was excited to be in the game and contributed with some decent fore-checking. Look for Maher to make more games this season as a sub. Maher, commented after the game, “later Jerky’s, I’ll be back”
  • DHAL- The commish was there on the 1st game, was very organized, explained rules and even took the time to thank the participating teams. So far so good, league living up to the good reputation.

The Bad:

  • The dry locker room- Bulldogs broke the record as they packed there gear and took off in less than 20 minutes. “No sense in staying here if no one brought Apple Juice” commented Joey FV.

 The Ugly:

  • Bizzo World- All we can say is we are glad to be back in a USA Hockey league.
