Bulldogs Rocked by Rams

 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS RAMS Date/Time Rink
2 4 11/28/2006 @ 009:15pm IIC, Romeoville, IL

November 30th, 2006- The ‘Bulldogs’ came into Tuesday night’s game riding a two game win streak. They walked into the locker room after the game hanging their heads after dropping a winnable game, 4-2 to the Rockdale ‘Rams’.

The ‘Bulldogs’ looked like a team half asleep. Their lack of aggression cost them any kind of momentum. “We played like we had a Thanksgiving bird poking out of our asses” said Maher Karim. “I’ve never seen us lack hustle or play so passively before.”

The ‘Dogs’ fell behind 1-0 early in the first, despite the sloppy play of the ‘Rams’. The game appeared to be a comedy of errors, like a black-and-white keystone cops film. The Bulldogs breakout was weak and their overall attack was inconsistent. Despite having several power play opportunities, they failed to threaten any kind of offensive assault.

The game was more of the same in the second. The sloppy play of both teams failed to yield any indication that the six or seven fans in attendance were actually watching a hockey game. It as turning into a real yawner. Unfortunately with less than fifty seconds left in the second, the ‘Dogs’ let down their guard by allowing the ‘Rams’ to score twice. What was a close match just moments before, had them falling into a deep hole.

“I figured I was done for the period” said Mike Mancuso. “I went to the locker room to take a leak, and when I came back we were losing 3-0.”  Needless to say, the superstitious Mancuso will no longer be running to the little boy’s room until after the game has ended.

The ‘Dogs’ finally got on the board when rookie Joe Koehler’s goal early in the third period got them close. Although he would score again late in the game, it was too little, too late.

“Pretty sad that we lost to a team that is 3-5” said Alex Martinez. “We need to work on a lot of things that I could go on forever discussing. The biggest thing we lack is communication. I guess its best to say that is important to communicate during the games, on the ice and bench. It kills me that no one is on the same page. I blame that on the fact that we don’t practice like we used to. That will change soon.”

At 7-3-0, the ‘Bulldogs are still in the playoff hunt. However, if they lose games they should be winning, they’ll begin golfing early in April.

The Good:

  • Feeney: The ’Dogs’ welcomed back their newly married teammate, who returned after a three game absence, while enjoying his honeymoon in Jamaica.

The Bad:

  • Feeney: Unfortunately, the Jamaican Rasta-plant he so thoroughly enjoyed on the honeymoon, made him forget how to use a hockey stick (“what’s a hockey stick, mon?”). He looked rustier than a ninety year old hooker

 The Ugly:

  • Joey “Poor Boy Steak” Van Grimbergen- Joey lost $500 in a locker room bet that Idaho wasn’t even close to bordering the state of Nevada. Unfortunately, that $500 was the cash he saved for the LaBatt Blue Tournament in Las Vegas. Needless to say, his roster spot for the tourney is now open.
