November 14th,
2006-
After
starting their season with five quick victories, the
Bulldogs dropped their second in a row, this time to
Skatin Bacon 4-3.
The
Dogs fell behind 1-0 early in the first, despite
out-shooting their opponents. Their passes were
ill-timed, their puck movement inconsistent and their
overall play was sloppy. Despite having five power play
opportunities, they failed to score. Even when Captain
Joe Van Grimbergen stacked his line full of studs, the
Dogs came up empty.
Midway through the second period, Bill Nolan scored
on a shot from the right side of slot to tie the
game. The goal gave the Dogs new hope as Old
School set the stage for a rally. Less than five
minutes later, Mike Montague scored unassisted to
give the club their first lead.
Unfortunately with under twenty seconds left in the
second, the Dogs lapsed mentally by allowing
Bacon to score uncontested. They would go on to
score two more unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead.
The
Dogs added one final goal in the third period when
Montague (assisted by Nolan) scored his second goal
of the game. It was all the Dogs could muster.
Although they pulled goalie Alex Martinez with 1:40
left for the extra-man advantage, they couldnt even
post one shot-on-goal in that span to tie it up.
Not the best result by losing to these [expletive]
but it clearly points out that we need practice
said Martinez. I credit guys really pulling their
weight and more out there. Monty was a machine along
with both Joe's [Koehler & Van Grimbergen]. We
really need everyone to make the same effort.
At
5-2-0, the Bulldogs are quickly slipping in the
standings. They need to stop the bleeding fast
before losing becomes their common theme.
The Good:
-
Shots-on-Goal: Although
the scorekeeper recorded only 19, the team actually
posted approximately 40 shots-on-goal. Unfortunately,
they just happened to run up against a hot goalkeeper on
this evening.
The Bad:
-
Penalties: The Dogs tallied six penaltiesfewer
than their season average, but they came at times
when the Dogs could ill-afford any shortages on
the ice.
- Power Play:
The Bulldogs were 0-for-6 on power play
opportunities, despite utilizing the stacked line
approach (for the second game in a row), they were
shut out.
The Ugly:
-
Sinner?: In the wake of the Ted Haggard gay-sex
scandal, one would assume that his disciple,
vice-evangelist pastor Jason Darfler, would show a
little more discretion with his alternative
life-style. Nope. There he was again, flashing his
sore thumb to the Dogs in the locker room,
looking to convert new followers.

-Repent,
my naked brother and you shall be saved.
