Bulldogs look to improve game

 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS HUSKIES Date/Time Rink
6 4 10/10/2006 @ 09:15pm IIC, Romeoville, IL

October 13th, 2006- "You know, it's still early in the season. I don't think we should be worried," said the Bulldogs General Manager Alex Martinez, whose team has a 4-0 record. That being said, he quickly added that the Bulldogs performance needs to improve as the team embark on tougher competition. The Bulldogs did beat the Huskies 6-4 this past Tuesday night, but it wasn't pretty.

"I know, personally, I have to look at myself and realize what I have to do better to help the team," said Martinez. Prior to playing on Wednesday night the entire team was doing the same thing -- looking in the mirror and, hopefully, realizing what type of work ethic is needed to win in this new league.

Bulldogs captain Joe Van Grimbergen said the team needs to rediscover its identity -- rediscover the grit, the grind and any other ingredient that makes the Bulldogs tough to play against.

"We've been hoping it comes back," said Van Grimbergen. "Now it is going to be non-negotiable. We have to go get it. We have to go find it. We have to re-establish our identity. We've seen how our team has to play as players, as coaches, as management and as fans. We have to increase the work ethic details in our game."

In what was suppose to be a cakewalk, the Bulldogs found out quickly that the talent alone is not enough to win. After leading 1-0 in the 1st period, the Huskies came back and score 3 unanswered goals in the second period to tie. The third period would be hard fought by both teams with the Bulldogs edging out the tired Huskies.

Some players echoed remarks on playing down to the competition, but make no mistakes the Bulldogs have been on top before and having success get to their head, lets hope its not the case this time around as they have yet to face the top tier teams.

The Good:

  • Overall the team is doing better than expected.
  • Defense is just pure SOLID.
  • Plenty of Beer (Read the Ugly).

The Bad:

  • Dragging Ass: This is becoming the norm, these guys need to get in shape. Where the hell is the coach.

 The Ugly:

  • MIA: Players were missing.... at least no shortage of beer after the game since every player is fined for no call no shows.
