 GAME RECAP

BULLDOGS JOLIET FIRE Date/Time Rink
14 2 04/10/2007 IIC, Romeoville, IL

April 12th, 2007- For the first time in nearly two months, the ‘Bulldogs’ fielded three full lines. Charity basketball games, church activities, suspensions, injuries and prison sentences had left the ‘Dogs’ with as few as eight skaters at times. However, they looked like the club that began the season 5-0 as they smashed ‘Joliet Fire’ 14-2.

The game was decided early and the ‘Fire’ never recovered. The ‘Bulldogs’ took a quick 2-0 lead in the first period and the rout was on. Frank Lionello and Joe Koehler led all players with four goals. John Reeg and Mike Mancuso added two each with Jason Darfler & Karl Hayes (one apiece) rounding out the scoring.

The team appeared to be firing on all cylinders as they made few mistakes. They hustled after loose pucks and kept the offense in flow as they spent the majority of the play clock in the attacking zone.

Great game” said Alex Martinez. “Everyone played the right way...passing, shooting and communicating. It was flawless, especially since we have failed to do all of these things against teams we are supposed to beat.”

The ‘Bulldogs’ (12-13-0) go into the final game of the season with a chance to salvage a .500 record and an outside chance at the sixth seed in the playoffs.

The Good:

  • Passing: Good breakout passes and solid puck movement in the attacking zone.
  • Hustle: Loose pucks were chased down
  • Goaltending: No Swiss cheese tonight.
  • Positioning: Playing out of position was the ‘Dogs’ biggest weakness the last few weeks. They corrected those flaws in practice and the results paid off..
  • Shooting: The ‘Bulldog’ attack never stopped firing shots on net.

The Bad:

  • None

 The Ugly:

  • ‘Classy’ Craig Sayles (#14) of the “Joliet Fire’. Craig was detrimental in his team’s loss by losing face offs, drawing penalties, whining from the bench, throwing a few cheap shots, and quitting on his team midway through the second period.
