*Season ended early.
Tony Feeney was born to a middle class family in
Chicago, IL. When he was young, he had no interest
in anything but hockey, Irish beer and nudie
magazines. He took his first drink at age 6 and has
been hooked ever since. He accidentally received a
neighbor's issue of
JUGGS
magazine at age 7, and immediately became a
subscriber. To date, he is their most loyal
customer, having purchased every issue since 1977.
When Tony turned 18, he tried out for the US Olympic
Hockey team as a defenseman. He stayed on with the
team until he was the last player cut, one month
before the Olympics. The final spot was a dogfight
between him and Brian Leetch, and the coach selected
the more talented Leetch. Disgusted by the
experience, he cursed the team and went to play for
the Irish National squad. Up to that point, Ireland
had never made it to the winter games in hockey.
However, in 1988, they were headed to the Olympics
in Calgary.
Tony was one of the stars for Team Ireland,
contributing 4 goals and 11 assists in the seven
games. Ireland finished fourth, narrowly missing the
Bronze medal. Their achievement was easily the most
inspirational moment at the games. It restored the
pride of the Irish, and put their country back on
the map as a competitive team. The disappointing U.S
team on the other hand, was eliminated well before
the medal round.
Upon his return to Ireland, Tony and his teammates
became national heroes. They did the talk show
circuit and made appearances at public events.
Feeney accepted a contract to pitch Killian's Red in
commercials and other endorsements. He also accepted
his dream job as a truck driver for Guinness Beer in
Dublin. Life was good.
Two years later, Killians
revoked Tony's contact due to his employment with
Guinness. Killians cited
competitive conflict of interest. Guinness, in turn,
also fired him less than a month later, when large
shipments of beer began disappearing from his truck
and the local distribution warehouse. An
investigation for the missing brew, led police to
the Feeney household, where they seized
approximately 1200 liters of Guinness beer in kegs,
bottles and cans-far less than the 72000 liters
reportedly missing. Tony was on the run. He hastily
fled the country and headed back to the U.S. His
face was splashed throughout the news and tabloids
on European TV and newspapers. Once a symbol of
Irish pride, Tony' had now become the shame of an
entire nation.
Once he returned to the States, Tony bounced around
the IHL, AHL, NAHL and CHL. Because of his fugitive
status, Tony changed his name regularly playing
under such names as Tony de Tiger, Tony Baloney and
Meany Feeney. During his time in the NAHL, he donned
a mask and played under the moniker of "The Masked
Marauder"; for fear that several of his former Irish
teammates might recognize him and notify the
authorities. This is how he would spend the next 12
years.
In July 2002, Scotland Yard uncovered a major
conspiracy. Hanley Shamus O'Brien was discovered
hung by the neck in his apartment. In his suicide
letter, he mentioned the illegal activities of his
gay lover Simon Patrick McMurtry, VP of Distribution
for Guinness. The 9-page letter detailed
embezzlement, racketeering, fraud and the theft of
beer from the Dublin Distribution Center. It also
mentioned that McMurtry planted the evidence at
Feeney's house, knowing that Tony would never call
the authorities; for fear that he would have to
return the beer. An investigation into McMurtry got
him arrested and convicted on over 200 counts of
fraud and larceny. He was sentenced to life
imprisonment, but will be available for parole in
2005. Tony was exonerated and came out of hiding.
After McMurty's conviction, Feeney slapped the
Guinness Corporation with a $1.1 billion lawsuit.
The two parties settled out of court, for $1,000 and
a lifetime supply of Guinness, a paid subscription
to JUGGS and the video game Frogger. Because he was
now cleared of any wrongdoing, Ireland invited him
back to rejoin their Olympic team. Feeney rejected
the offer and chose to remain the US, but he wanted
to play hockey. His mentor and friend, Al Secord
suggested that Tony join the Chicago Bulldogs, a
team of misfits with checkered pasts, much like him.
Tony immediately fit in with his new teammates. His
popularity with his team has risen since he
occasionally provides them with some Guinness Dark.
Currently, he plays defense for the Bulldogs and
continues to drink heavily.
